CORRECTION Re: PE2950III; internal or external tape backup?

Actually I have the Dell 112T  DLT1 VS80 drive 1U unit, don't know if that makes a difference here.

Hi,
I was wondering which would be a better backup scenario – purchasing a new PowerVault 100T, DAT72 internal  tape Backup for the 2950III, or using what I already have, a 110T 1U external tape backup.  The dell sales guy told me it would be better to use what I already have - the 110T, because he said that with some kinds of hardware failure an external drive would have greater accessibility than having the internal backup.  Anyone agree or disagree with this?
