SBUU is a utility that assists with the OS install for ANY Dell
supported OS and also provides a bootable CD for firmware updates.

Is it required? No

Will it ease you through creating a utility partition (F10 for diags)
and RAID setup, if needed? Yes

Does it have all necessary drivers? Yes

Firmware ought to be up to date; there is occasionally newer FW released
but the SBUU will likely not have that anyway...

Subject: PE 2950, Build and Update Utility and Linux; Install OS first?

Hi,

I Just received a new PE 2950 III with RAID 1 - 2 SAS drives, and am
installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or CentOS).

Should I be installing the OS before the Build and Update Utility? Or
the update utility prior to the OS? Or does it matter? Or do I even
need the build and update utility for a Linux box?

Are there necessary drivers and firmware on the build and update
utility disks required for correct setup and configuration of RAID 1 and
server hardware? Is the Build and Update Utility for Microsoft OS only?

It's confusing because on the disks are printed - "Includes Server
Operating System Installation", and the server was ordered without the
OS. We told the sales rep that we were installing the OS ourselves.

Thanks.
