You don't say which system(s) so I can't be sure this will work for you. But on newer versions of the BMC's you can setup SNMP trap notifications.

Subject: catching ipmi events/alarms

Hi,
Is there a way to catch a specific ipmi event or alarm (over temp. for ex.) and execute a user defined action on it using ipmitool, ipmituil or whatever that is open source?
Now I am using Openmanage for it but I want to switch to open source tools. OM has an option to "execute application" on defined events, and I just can not find any other tool that can do this. I'm digging in ipmitool and ipmiutil docs for a day, am I so blind???

Regards,
Michael
