Quietest 1U Rack Server?

Just another note to this as well, Dell servers are specifically
designed for hot-row/cold-row configurations (enclosures with upward air
moment end up baking the middle units). Since these are placed in an
office, I'm going to assume that you don't have a hot and cold row ;)

Towers are better overall if you don't have a datacenter or closed
environment to deal with the extended capacity. Personally, I used a
bread rack ($40 @ lowes/homedepot) and put my tower units on it do deal
with density. Just as stable, easy cable management with Velcro straps
and I got a higher drive density than with towers.

While 1U's and 2U's are nice, they just don't make sense sometimes...

   Well, I do :-)
We have a bunch of these in our machine room. While very nice
machines
that simply keep running without problems, they are ... not very quiet.
To
say the least. In fact, when a colleague had one of them in his office,
it
sounded as if he had a vacuum cleaner going at full power. So, forget
about havong one of these in your office.

I would also put my money on a tower server for your office. Rack
servers usually don't run quiet and as Marios wrote above, usually are a

bit more expensive. If you really don't need the high packing factor,
don't go with a rack based solution.

   My two cents,
