Actually, I think it's mostly because the megaraid and mpt functionalities
are built on rather dissimilar technology.  Anyway, it's less confusing
than Dell's practice of OEM-ing three quite different types of RAID
hardware and calling two of them, from different manufacturers, by the
same general name (PERC), yet calling two of them, from the same
manufacturer, by different names (PERC and SAS x/iR).
