RHEL3 on VMware Infrastructure

Do you have the VLAN ID set for your "VM Network" configuration? I
found (w/ RHEL3 and VMware ESXi 3.5) that even if the VLAN ID was
properly set that VM's would not connect. Deleting the VLAN ID allowed
everything to work fine.
