hw_random: RNG not detected

I have a question regarding my RNG not being detected. I have 2 of 2950 III. One I received 3 months ago and 1 I received last week. They are identical configurations.

On the one I received 3 months ago. I get the following in dmesg.


Aug 22 08:27:00 Analyzer kernel: hw_random hardware driver 1.0.0 loaded

On the 1 I received last week I get the following in dmesg

Aug 22 09:20:33 Analyzer kernel: hw_random: RNG not detected

Why would the random number generator not be detected all of a sudden?

I am running RHEL ES 4.6 X86_64.
