On RHEL4 x64 (appears not to happen on i386, though I am not 100% sure
yet) it looks like the Dell repositories install boost version
1.33.1-10.el4 and a system version of boost is still kept on,
boost-1.32.0-6.rhel4. However, when up2date attempts to update boost it
freaks because of the newer dell version of boost installed.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue short of removing the newer
version of boost?

What is boost required by in terms of the dell stuff?

Anyone know why there is a different version of boost to begin with
instead of just using the redhat supplied one?

Here is the up2date error:
RPM package conflict error. The message was:
Test install failed because of package conflicts:
package boost-1.33.1-10.el4 (which is newer than boost-1.32.0-7.rhel4)
is already installed
