Hello list,
question: has anyone of you managed (how?)to run OpenIPMI and thus OMSA
on a PE4600? When I try to install the ipmi_si kernel module, modprobe
hangs (for a number of days if left alone...) But according to
http://linux.dell.com/ipmi.shtml, it should be possible to run OpenIPMI
on a PE4600 using BT. When I run dmidecode, an IPMI resource is listed:
$ sudo /usr/sbin/dmidecode | grep -A 9 IPMI
IPMI Device Information
Interface Type: BT (Block Transfer)
Specification Version: 1.0
I2C Slave Address: 0x10
NV Storage Device: Not Present
Base Address: 0x00000000000000E4 (I/O)
Register Spacing: Successive Byte Boundaries
Interrupt Polarity: Active High
Interrupt Trigger Mode: Edge
Interrupt Number: f
$
But when I try to load ipmi_si, modprobe hangs (with or without arguments:
# modprobe ipmi_si type="bt" ports="0xe4" irqs=15
#
The syslog reports:
# grep -i ipmi /var/log/messages
messages:Apr 2 15:44:24 nlxth001 kernel: ipmi device interface
messages:Apr 2 15:45:00 nlxth001 kernel: IPMI System Interface driver.
messages:Apr 2 15:45:00 nlxth001 kernel: ipmi_si: Trying hardcoded-
specified bt state machine at mem address 0xe4, slave address 0x0, irq 15

messages:Apr 2 15:45:00 nlxth001 kernel: IPMI BT: req2rsp=10 secs

Note the different slave addresses mentioned by dmidecode and reported
by the kernel module! Even when I specify the slave address on the
modprobe commandline, the kernel reports slave address 0x0!
Versions:
Kernel: Linux nlxth001 2.6.23.15-137.fc8 #1 SMP Sun Feb 10 17:48:34 EST
2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
OpenIPMI: OpenIPMI-2.0.11-3.fc8
The same happens when I try to load the ipmi_si kernel module from
the srvadmin packages from the dell repository.
Regards, Edgar.
