2950 ipmi watchdog madness

How in the world do I stop this from occurring. I've been trying to
get kdump to work as my newer kernel doesn't support diskdump.
Kexec/kdump works fine. I can even get myself a shell with the new
kernel, but before I can finish copying the /proc/vmcore the system
power cycles. At 1st I thought this was a kernel issue, but it seemed
strange a kernel bug would cause a hard reset.... Then I looked into
the ipmi sel. Now I'm seeing this:
8 | 09/21/2007 | 22:03:58 | Watchdog 2 #0x71 | Hard reset | Asserted

Which is odd as I don't enable the watchdog timer. Even if I load
ipmi_watchdog module, and tickle the timer in the background the system
still power cycles.
