You can check in the PERC Config Utility (either at boot, or install the 
Dellmgr rpm).  Check the Physical Drive Infomration; this will give you 
counts for both Media Errors and Other Errors.  I'm told Media errors 
are physical errors.

Dell does have a 32bit diagnostics utility.  I've only used it to 
diagnose bad ram, but it has a ton of tests:
