Experience noted needed with MD3000

Hi,
We just got our md3000 installed and started to setup volumes for use with mysql. I would really appreciate getting some inputs from anyone with experience on this type of a stack (pe1950 attached to Md3000).

1. Raid 10 vs 50 for the data partition
2. Ext3 or lvm filesystem
3. Separate volumes for data/index/logs/tmp
4. Number of spindles - I read someone's notes that 7 spindle volumes are optimal; no more
