Raid Status on failure

Hi

we are using MegaCli to monitor Dell PE raid status, we do a grep of the event and send email when the hd fail, but what's the right status when it die? is it ok if we grep "degraded" or this one is a wrong status to grep? is there difference between Perc 4 and 5?
