HD listed as Foreign on the PERC 5/i controller

This is likely to be a cosmetic issue, understandably it's causing a
problem, but unlikely to be 2 faulty disks in such a short time - I'd
immediatley check firmware for the PERC and the SAS drives
omconfig storage controller action=importforeignconfig controller=id
(your PERC 5/I is probably controller 0, use
omreport storage controller=id
to view the controller info and verify this)

You can import or clear the foreign configuration on the controller page
or by using one of the omconfig storage controller commands.

Subject: HD listed as Foreign on the PERC 5/i controller
Howdy,
I have 6 SAS drives on a 2950 connected to the PERC 5/i.
9 months ago the system was setup by assigning 5 of the drives as a
single virtual disk and the last drive as a global hot spare.
The other day, the hd in slot 2 went offline (amber light). I didn't
have OpenManage installed at the time and all I saw in the IPMI log was
" Drive Slot #0x82 | Drive Fault | Asserted".
Dell sent me a replacement drive. I hot swapped the bad drive with the
new one and after much blinking, all the lights went green.
A day later, the drive in slot 1 (#0x81) reported in the ipmi log "
Drive Slot #0x81 | Drive Fault | Asserted".
This time I installed OpenManage and I see the drive's state listed as
"Foreign". The only options available (via OpenManage and rebooting and
using RAID utility) are blink and unblink.
I'm working with Dell on this but wanted to see if anyone has
experienced anything similar?
Thanks, Mike
