HD going offline

Hi,

Could be a corrupted RAID signature, which can only be fixed by low
level format of the drives, then re-create the array. First step would
be to check in the PERC BIOS for medium errors on the disks;

Configure >View/Add Configuration > Press F2 on each disk and check for
errors

As Joe rightly said, firmware the lot. There are a surprising amount of
HDD firmwares about nowadays, all rather critical..

Have you checked on Firmware updates for both the Perc3 and hard drives?

Subject: HD going offline

Hi all,
I have a PE 1500 with Perc3 DC (128mb) Raid Controller and 2 36GB HD
in a Raid 1 configuration. Since about 2 weeks both 2 HD will go
offline without any known reason. I only can boot the server again if
I go in to the Perc3 setup and force the HD back online. Sometimes it
will be ok for a couple days, sometimes just for a couple of hours.
There is nothing in /var/log/messages that would indicate any problem
with the HD which makes me think it is a problem with the Perc3
controller. I do have another controller coming in a couple days but
was wondering if it is something that can be fixed?
I would be thankful for any tips, hints or ideas.

Peter M.
