RAID 1 vs RAID 10

Building a new database server (sybase or postgresql). Lots of
transactional stuff with write ops being as or more frequent than reads.
Weighing up the benefits of:

1U (eg SC1435) SAS5/iR
2 sata drives in RAID1 (software + data)

vs

2U (eg 2950) PERC5/i
2 sata drives in RAID1 (software)
4 sata drives in RAID10 (data)

The latter config is about 40% more expensive based on a 4 core setup.

Anyone care to speculate on (or better yet prove) the benefits of RAID1
vs RAID10 and seperating out the data from the code? That 40% could buy
another four cores instead in a RAID1 config..

Zach.
