Thanks for the response. I had already looked at the document. As I
mentioned in the first email, I don't see what other installation issues
there could be. There are only 2 connectors which are properly seated to
the card and the motherboard.
Naidu.

If the attached pdf doc is too big, you can also get to a similar online
version at:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pe2950/en/hom/html/about.h
tm
which you click on link:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pe2950/en/hom/html/install
.htm#wp1075991
Follow the steps exactly. Make sure the DRAC is seated correctly and
the plastic standoff snap over the edge of the card...
...and make sure you are connected to the right connectors (1 and 3
shown at):

Direct from the PowerEdge 1950 edoc on support.dell.com:
!!*** Error: Remote Access Controller initialization failure*** RAC
virtual USB devices may not be available...
Remote Access Controller initialization failure.
Ensure that the Remote Access Controller is properly installed. See "RAC
Card" on page 71.
See Page 71 of the attached document (and let me know if it is too big
to transfer). I tried to copy just the sections, even pasting it into a
Word doc, but the drawing will not copy/paste correctly. Plus you need
other sections as well that are referred to on Page 71.
Let me know if this works.

Subject: DRAC initialization failure
I got a DRAC card added to an existing PE 1950 and on power up I see the
following messages at BIOS:
"Remote Access Controller detected
"!!*** Error: Remote Access controller initialization failure ***
RAC virtual USB devices may not be available...
All there was to connect this card was 2 connectors to the motherboard,
and Ethernet cable. Of course I can't use Ethernet cable without DRAC
initializing properly.
Previously I used to have BMC configured with an IP address from BIOS
and was responding OK for IPMI lan probes from another system (using
ipmitool on linux or ipmiutil.exe on windows).
I tried resetting the configuration to factory default and that didn't
help anything.
I could not find any troubleshooting guide for DRAC at the BIOS level.
It is OS independent and there has to be something that I may be
missing.
How can I fix this problem?
Thanks,
Naidu.
