You can do a direct upgrade to Centos 3.x and it is 99% binary compatable.

Agreed.  There are no free security updates being generated for RHL 9
(as far as I know) since December.  It is dangerous to run it on the
network, and ancient to try to manage in any case.  Upgrade at least
to Centos 3.x.
