You cannot mix them in a virtual disk. That is the only issue. There are
lots of reasons for this that if you really want me to I can go into,
but suffice to say that we do not allow protocol mixing in virtual
disks. I assume that is why you cannot order them mixed...

I notice you replied to a question I have been trying to get answered
through the dell phone support, 

I have a 2900, I have mixed drives sas and sata. I was wondering why
this isn't allowed config when ordering? 

But seems to work just fine? Is there any performance or issues why they
don't allow this during config or does dell just want you to buy all
same drives?
