No storage info from OMSA 5.1 on Debian Etch (revisited)

Hi there,

I've come across this lists searching for a solution to a recent
problem I have with a new PowerEdge server.

I have installed Debian 4.0 Etch. Kernel from standard package
linux-image-2.6.18-4-686

The server has this raid controller:

02:08.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068
PCI-X Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 01)

I've installed OMSA 5.1 from

ftp://ftp.sara.nl/pub/sara-omsa/dists/dell/sara/binary-i386/

But when asking for raid status (which is the only reason I want OMSA really):

hs-412:~# omreport storage controller
No controllers found

So, I found the previous messages about this subject:

http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2007-January/029267.html

And I have some questions I hope Patrick or some other can help with.

Just waiting for OMSA 5.2 (when it's ported to sara.nl, hopefully)
would fix this with this or next debian standard kernels?

There's some discussion about the new drivers using sysfs (/sys). As I
only want to know RAID status, anyone knows what I have to look at on
/sys ? I just can throw a cron to check some file or something and
send an email. That's all that I need (the server is a dedicated one
rented, my ISP provides hardware replaced but I must ask for it and
know when to swap a bad disk).

Thanks a lot for your time.
