Yes, years ago we dumped Compaq for this reason -- the constant cavalcade
of hardware surprises with each new model. HP was much better for a bunch
of years, but when they ate Compaq and dropped their low-end server line
and substituted rebranded Proliants, we made our move to Dell. Oh, the
joy of no longer having to carry Torx screwdrivers!
