Turn off compression, or feed it real data (like dd if=/dev/sda ...). It's
compressing lots of zeros and those compress well enough for the tape to
stop. That happens on my LTO-2 drive. I don't know why you've got the 2mb/s
figure, though -- it should be much faster than that.
