But something isn't quite right here maybe? 

We have almost exactly the same setup - PE1950, Centos 4.5 x86_64,
Virtuozzo.

I did my install of OMSA just before the latest round of changes to the
repository began -- it would have been maybe 4 weeks to 6 weeks ago -- so
maybe things have changed since then. But at the time I'm 99% sure all I
needed to do was install the bootstrap and yum install svradmin-all and that
was it other than making sure ipmi loaded manually afterwards.

The key thing that bothers me from what happened to you is that the
kernel-devel package won't match the actual kernel installed because the
system will be running a custom SW Soft Kernel, with no matching
kernel-devel in the centos repositories, so I don't see what use it would be
to have it (or does the OMSA installation script just need to see that one
exists - even if it does not match the running kernel, in order to
install?). Having said that I would have had the kernel-devel-2.6.9-55
package (for the non-sw-soft kernel) installed anyway. I would also have had
all the 32-bit compatibility packages installed by default too (I knew I
would need them).

Did you have the latest Virtuozzo kernel installed when you did this? Linux
2.6.9-023stab044.4-smp is the one we are running and this is the very latest
as far as I know.
