OSMA not accepting password on Debian etch amd64

I installed OSMA from the ftp.sara.nl/pub/sara-omsa repository on my
PE1850. The install went smoothly and the init scripts start without
error. I am able to get to the OSMA login page via
https://localhost:1311. 

When I enter root as the user and the appropriate password, it gets
knocked back with a login failed error message. I looked over the auth
and dell logs, but found nothing of interest. 

Any pointers?
