I've successfully used partimage to image disks, then package them up for CD
with zsplit.

If it's imaged to a backup USB disk, for example, you can then use unzsplit
to disk-to-disk copy by booting to the USB, say, on dev/sda and then copying
to logical physical drive, /dev/sdb, in that case. Otherwise, it's
fractioned into CD ROM segments for a multiple disc unzsplit.
