the biggest advantage I have seen for 64bit is the easy use of memory above 4GB. Yes, 32bit OS can access above the 4GB line, but not without a number of setups for indirect mapping.
details-- 2**32 = 4GB, meaning the addressing needs to use some extra-indirect way to reference memory about 2**32.
The new PE2950 can handle 8 sticks of memory, with theoretical max of something like 64GB. That is more than I can get my boss to buy, but running on 8-12GB has become quite normal for me.
