The Intel Gigabit VT Quad Port Server Adapter does not use the e1000
driver. It relies on a new driver, igb. The igb driver is available from
Dell's support site, or from http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000.

Hi,
I am currently running Gentoo on a fresh delivered Poweredge 1950 that
had an Intel Pro1000 quad adapter included. I tried a Debian etch
installation before, but that didn't run either.
I tried the module from the Intel/Sourceforge site and modules included
in different kernels. The e1000 driver included in 2.6.22 kernels and
the e1000e driver (marked as Pro1000 PCI-Express; the card is a PCI-E
one) in the 2.6.23 kernel. None of them worked.
I have a very strange lspci output:
0c:00.0 PCI bridge: Integrated Device Technology, Inc. Unknown device
8018 (rev 0e)
0d:02.0 PCI bridge: Integrated Device Technology, Inc. Unknown device
8018 (rev 0e)
0d:04.0 PCI bridge: Integrated Device Technology, Inc. Unknown device
8018 (rev 0e)
0e:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Unknown device 10d6 (rev
02)
0e:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Unknown device 10d6 (rev
02)
0f:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Unknown device 10d6 (rev
02)
0f:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Unknown device 10d6 (rev
02)
That unknown device should be the Intel NIC and I don't even know, why
there are obiously similar problems woth the PCI bridge.
My current uname -a output:
Linux limes 2.6.23-gentoo-r3 #2 SMP Fri Dec 14 09:01:56 CET 2007 x86_64
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5355 @ 2.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
The driver from intel I tried has the version 7.6.12 (e1000-7.6.12).
Did anyone experience this? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Matthias
