860 IPMI setup

Hello,

Today I experienced that my 860 crashed and i couldn't access it via  
IPMI because it's improperly set up. I have reviewed the settings in  
OMSA and the IP and gateway are correct. Should i be able to ping the  
IP or something like that? I need to verify that it is possible to  
reach it. I have only connected the first NIC to the switch, is that  
enough?

I don't have drac or anything, just a basic 860 which i want to be  
able to reboot remotely.
