Unless you absolutely need some of the advanced options included in the MySQL 
RPM (clustering, some special-case storage engines), there is no need to use it.

If you do use them, though, make sure that you remove the server rpms from the 
OS install.  The -devel and -client rpms are okay, in my experience.
