Had a similar thing happen to me on a 2650. What helped was some playing 
around with the drives. This was RAID1, so I had 5 slots to play with. I 
literally had to move the drives around until it'd start recognizing the 
replacement. Took many tries. I've let the drives sit for a few weeks, and 
after that time it got finally to work.

The problem seems to be in the drive firmware. It'd recognize any other drive, 
but not the "failed" one, which works fine if inserted into say a PE2850.

There's updated firmware, but I haven't gotten to fixing that just yet. May 
actually never happen, probably the drives will get replaced first - those 
are teeny 18GB drives.
