Hello,
I tried to update the firmware of the BMC device and ran into
a 'deadlock':
First I start the machine in single user mode. Then start I start
the update package PE2950_ESM_FRMW_LX_R149881.BIN. All prerequisites are fine:
<snap>
ipmi device interface
.......................................................................
Running validation...
Baseboard Management Controller
The version of this Update Package is newer than the currently installed
version.
Software application name: BMC
Package version: 1.33
Installed version: 1.14

.
The OpenIPMI driver is currently loaded. Please unload the driver before
executing.

</snap>
I have stopped the dsm_sa_ipmi service manually but the same message occurs.
It seems the update process automatically starts the IPMI drivers.
The setup of the machine:
PE2950,
8 GiB Ram,
SAS-RAID,
Debian Etch 4.0 amd64
All other updates where successful:
- mainboard BIOS: v. 1.3.7
- Perc 5/i: v. 5.1.1-0040
- SAS backplane: v. 1.05
To install this updates I have installed dellomsa from 'ftp://ftp.sara.nl/pub/sara-omsa'.
This package have many dependencies. The most are belonging to the 32-bit library
'ia32-libs '. The packages 'libopenipmi0' and 'openipmi' were installed also.
Did I missed something or is it a bug?
Kind regards
Kris
