Subject: RE: 1950s with SAS 5/I controller and install debian etch
Hi Prajyot
I have only experience with Perc5 i However from what I read Etch will
support SAS with no problem.
When you run the install routine for Debian it will ask for drive
partitioning then it loads the base system. During this it will prompt for
the use of INITRD or YAIRD. Choose YAIRD.
The issue I refer to over the use of YAIRD is that INITRD only loads the
drive controller software late down the boot process and as such the OS
can't find the drives, it a bug in the 2.6.15 kernel that as far as I know
has not yet been patched.
YAIRD from what I read is a better loader and seems to be more forgiving
than INITRD. I suggest you have a look at the YAIRD web page for a bit more
information.
Hope that helps
