Clearing esm log on SC1425.

We've got a cluster of SC1425's running a derivative of RHEL 3 (Rocks).
After a disk replacement one is showing a flashing amber light which
I'd like to clear. I can read the event log indirectly by running
the diagnostics (booted from a usb flash drive) but I can't find any
way to clear it.
This is what I've tried:
omsa: won't install because the SC1425's aren't supported
delldset: clearesmlog fails trying to find /etc/init.d/dataeng
(which gets installed with omsa!).
ipmitool: no /dev/ipmi0 (even after modprobe of ipmi modules)
It looks like this might be impossible from this version of Linux
so I was wondering if there's a way of doing it from a bootable
image - grub, flash drive or CD?
Thanks
