IPMI kills networking on PE860 with fc5

Hi,

enabling IPMI kills the networking on our core2duo PE860 machine.
fedora core 5, x86_64, yum install OpenIPMI-tools

I did:
  cd /usr/share/ipmitool
  ./bmclanconf -c 1 -i eth0 -a 0 -p <some passwd>

and then about 30 seconds later the ethernet interface (BCM5721, tg3
running at gigE speed) seems to stop working entirely... I can reboot,
restart network, etc. and the NIC still doesn't work.
a very similar procedure works just fine on our Intel m/b and e1000
machines.

doing this on the PE860 console fixes it again:
  ./bmclanconf -c 1 -i eth0 -r

this happens for both kernel 2.6.18-1.2200.fc5 and 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5.

what am I doing wrong?
or is IPMI just broken on this box (it's pretty new)?

also (an extra-credit question :-) only one IPMI channel seems to be
available on this machine (-c 1), but it has 2 gigE interfaces.
how do I setup IPMI on both interfaces?

thanks for any help!

cheers,
robin
