Hi
I have a Dell 2950 connected to a HP 5304xl gigabit-switch. I have
several other servers connecting to this switch with gigabit speed.
Unfortunately I can only get the 2950 to run 100 Mbps, and if I check
with mii-tool it tells me that the driver only reports 100 Mbps as
capability. Why?
$ uname -a
Linux foo 2.6.17-2-amd64 #1 SMP Wed Sep 13 17:49:33 CEST 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ dmesg |grep eth

bnx2: eth1: using MSI
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready
bnx2: eth1 NIC Link is Up, 100 Mbps full duplex
$ sudo mii-tool eth1 -v
eth1: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok

basic mode: autonegotiation enabled
basic status: autonegotiation complete, link ok

link partner: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
How do I get my 2950 to run gigabit? Will it just work, if I try:
sudo mii-tool --force="1000BaseTx-FD" eth1 ?
The switch port is a gigabit port:
