You'll need to clear the foriegn config and then assign it as a
hotspare.

NOTE: If you hadn't taken the drive out while the box was down you would
have been able to replace it and rebuild would have started
automatically. As it is now it assumes that you used the drive to split
the mirror and have possibly put the drive in another box since you used
it therefore it may have different data than what it originally had on
it and in order to preserve this data it treats the drive as foriegn.

Subject: PERC 5/i config util - operation failed

Hi all,

I am a first time poster here. Please forgive any unintentional breach
of protocol.

This scenario and problem are below...

Just loaded my 1900 rack with Fedora C5. all seems to be working well.

I just HAD to test my PERC 5/i RAID-1.

Here is what I did:

-Powered down the box

-Removed a drive

-Rebooted

-The system booted fine from the remaining drive

-Powered down

-Replaced missing drive

-Rebooted

-Got notice on boot screen that foreign configuration was found

-The system booted OK, but only the one drive was working

-Powered down

-Rebooted

-Went into the PERC 5/i config util

-Saw that the other drive was flagged as "missing"

-Hit F2 for operations on that drive

-Selected Rebuild

-Got Error: "Error! Start Rebuild operation failed !"

-Hit OK to return to main PERC config screen

-Hit F2 for operations again

-Selected "Force Online"

-Got Error: "Error! Start Rebuild operation failed !"

Any ideas how I can get this drive back?

Thanks!

-Matt
