I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but these servers can run 64-bit
they are EM64T. I ended up going with Ubuntu Dapper 6.06.1 LTS amd64
version roughly following these directions--although they are for Ubuntu
and Dell 2950, the module and boot loader info should approximately
transfer for Debian.

Network does not detect during the install, but works fine after reboot,
don't know if that is an issue with any of the Debian installers.
The kernel from Dapper causes the physical drives to show up as well as
the RAID, so for example the physical disks in my RAID1 show up as
/dev/sda and /dev/sdb and the mirror shows up as /dev/sdc. So, I had to
change the filter config for LVM to stop the PV UUID from showing up on
more than one device.
I hear the install works almost perfectly with Ubuntu Edgy, but that is
not an LTS release and will only receive security updates for 18 months
vs. 5 years for LTS. The Xen kernel from 3.0.2 via xenify.sh also does
not have the issue with disks showing up as well as RAID.
