I installed sarge on a PE 2950 recently. I used the updated sarge
installer Robert mentioned; it's at http://kmuto.jp/b.cgi/debian/ (and
I see there's a more recent one with 2.6.18 now), since the sarge
netinst installer couldn't drive the network card.
I had problems (frequent RESETs under heavy write load) with the
megaraid_sas driver with my PERC 5i when I used 2.6.16. They may be
solved in the more recent kernels; I haven't checked yet. There's a
gross hack to get it working on 2.6.16, but I'd recommend a more
recent kernel.
Other than that it's been working great for me.
