Actually, I've found a better benchmark test that shows a more
reasonable result for IA-32 vs. EM64T:

These results demonstrate the performance increase I expected, and
showed less difference between ICC and GCC, which is nice.  And GCC 4.1
looks like it's going to be really close to Intel in terms of
optimization features.

Funny, everybody keeps saying that.  I guess all that DEC brainpower
made a difference.
