Hi,
I'm running Debian 3.1r2 on a PowerEdge 830. The
machine has an adaptec raid controller, and doesn't
have a DRAC. Everything works as expected, with the
exception of the cdrom. When I use the 2.4 kernel
Debian supplies, I can see the cdrom, and when I use
their 2.6 kernel (based on 2.6.8), I can't. I would
really like to run this system on an unmodified Debian
install... Can anyone give me any pointers?
Some more information on what I see with the 2.6
kernel:
o With the ide-core and ide-cdrom modules loaded,
there are no block devices corresponding to a cdrom
under /sys/block
o With the ide-core and ide-scsi modules loaded, there
are no block devices corresponding to a cdrom under
/sys/block
o When loading the ide-scsi or ide-cdrom modules,
there are no messages printed to the syslog to
indicate these modules have found the drive.
Cheers,
Dunk
