hmm... I'm not too familiar with emc, but I know that Hitachi's HDLM
software can hide this kind of stuff - I assume powerpath should be able
to do something similar.
The fact that you've got two devices is simply because of the dual path,
although to have a truly redundant infrastructure, you'd need quad paths:

In this setup (the hosts are obviously in a failover or loadbalancing
cluster), there's no longer a single point of failure anywhere.
