Sorry for stepping in but maybe anybody knows why it doesn't work on
Dell 2850:

# ipmitool -v chassis status
Could not open device at /dev/ipmi0 or /dev/ipmi/0: No such file or directory

# lsmod | grep ipmi
ipmi_devintf           13064  0 
ipmi_si                40740  0 
ipmi_msghandler        36416  2 ipmi_devintf,ipmi_si

# dmesg
ipmi_si: Found SMBIOS-specified state machine at I/O address 0xca8,
slave address 0x20
 IPMI kcs interface initialized
ipmi message handler version 38.0

Modules were loaded with the parametes I read in this thread as the
dmidecode info was the same, too.
