The problem for me isn't getting a boot disk together, I can do that no
problem, the issue is that the legacy megaraid driver included in any
linux kernel I have tried past 2.4.27 will detect the card just fine,
but it won't detect any of the logical drives. When the system goes to
mount root it panics because the logical drive doesn't exist.
Here is a message I posted about the problem a while ago:
http://www.archivum.info/linux-scsi@vger.kernel.org/2005-11/msg00129.html
To this day it hasn't been fixed, and as far as I know the megaraid
drivers in the kernel.org kernels (legacy or otherwise) are no longer
supporting the CERC ATA100 card.
I would love a solution to this, but I've pretty much given up. Perhaps
someone on the list can compile a recent kernel.org kernel and see if
they can get it to see the logical drive. That would tell me if it's my
system or something I'm doing, but I doubt it since I have several
systems that do this and have tried a number of kernels.
