I'm not sure about a 2.4.x kernel but with 2.6.9 you need to check the
Legacy megaraid option when building a kernel and have the following alias
in /etc/modprobe.conf
alias scsi_hostadapter megaraid
May need a number after hostadapter, eg
alias scsi_hostadapter1 megaraid
Also note this is for Fadore 3 so you may need to tweak with things for your
distro.
