'broken pipe' on weekly makewhatis after vixie-cron update

   Did anyone else notice the weekly makewhatis cron job spewing 'broken pipe' messages
after this weekend's cron update.  This looks like Redhat has reintroduced a bug which they
fixed last year sometime.  Some one has also logged this problem at the Centos bug 
tracking site.
