PE2900 NIC ordering

Hi Matt,


  Thanks for that but its using MAC addresses which I was hoping to
avoid. Also it doesn't seem to work on my RHEL 4.3-like system,
specifically it looks like when I do ifup eth0 after running the script,
it screws up in get_config_by_hwaddr and loops. The error messages are
like

interface 'dev2909' not found
interface 'dev3100' not found
etc.

I'll take a better look later but do you have any ideas?
