But to save you the trip 521X is the latest firmware.

Finally got a chance to poke a little deeper into the issue I was
having.

My PERC 4e/DC is running firmware 521x, BIOS H430.  The Seagate
ST3300007LC drives have revision D703.

No errors reported for the battery backup.

I'm actually having a bit of trouble locating the right pages on Dell's
site to know whether or not the PERC fw/bios are the latest versions -
is there a trick for this other than searching support.dell.com and
wading through the results?  My service tag produces a "there are no
updates for this system".
