I'm trying to think how an end-user, without write permission to the
relevant /{dev,proc,sys} files could do any damage.
If the RAID controller/library/driver is that badly broken it should be
fixed, not hidden. If that's not possible then Dell should really be
looking for another vendor.
Consider this some grass-roots customer feedback looking for real 64 bit
support and open-sourced management tools.
