And I want to compile the same for my debian on 1855.
What I have learned:
compile on another machine with newer software
compile drivers as modules
use yaird as replacement for mkinitrd.

I actually got it to work just now, and I'm going to see if my documentation
let med reproduce the result.
For the reference I will post my walktrough later.

This was probably not much help for you, but as  i wrote: try to compile the
drivers you need as modules.

CONFIG_MEGARAID_NEWGEN=y
CONFIG_MEGARAID_MM=m
CONFIG_MEGARAID_MAILBOX=m
CONFIG_MEGARAID_LEGACY=m
CONFIG_MEGARAID_SAS=m
