Hi,
Dell PowerEdge 1750, trying to setup serial console.
I am running mandriva linux 2006. I believe setup is
correct...for i have used same setup on dozens other
HP/compaq boxes.
Enabled console redirection in BIOS, and "redirection
after boot" as well.
For linux part, enabled serial in:
lilo.conf (related lines):
serial=0,9600n8
append="noapic nolapic resume=/dev/sda6 acpi=off
console=ttyS0,9600n8"

inittab file:
co:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 9600 ttyS0 vt100

/etc/securetty file: added ttyS0 in there for root
logins.
/etc/sysconfig/init file: Changed BOOTUP=serial
(cosmetic).

I am not getting redirection during POST...which i do
with similar setup with other hardware....and only see
output when initrd is loaded, upto, when init kicks
in...then no more output on serial console (using
xterm on another linux box to connect via "cu
-lttyS0").
Even when poweredge is completely up....I can try "cu
-lttyS0" to it, it says connected...but no output
whatsoever.

I do not have any Dell Utilities loaded, i wiped clean
the box/disks/partitions before installing
mandriva...so nothing like RAC on it, so i cannot go
into Utilities mode.

Other interesting info::
#setserial /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, UART: undefined, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4

On all other boxes, UART is set to 16550A.
I did change this via setserial, no effect, and came
back undefined upon reboot.

What am i missing here to get serial console working
on PowerEdge 1750? Does have to be done differently
from other hardware?

_Thanks in advance.

Richard
